Gardening, Nature and Heritage from Fota House

A Fair Day for a Plant Fair

In fact, it was more than a fair day. It was a beautiful, pet September day for the 2017 Irish Specialist Nursery Association Plant Fair at Fota House and Gardens.

There was a queue of serious, specialist gardeners even before we opened at 11 am. Seasoned attendees brought their own trolleys, shopping bags and their wallets to avail of the specialist plants on sale. But many people who had come to Fota House for a Sunday walk enjoyed event too.

There was a selection of rare trees, shrubs, alpine and herbaceous plants, herbs, bulbs, garden metalwork, ceramics, baskets and plenty more.

The stalls were set up early in the sunshine. The atmosphere throughout the day was joyous. Nothing excites a gardener more than the possibility of introducing new or unusual plants into their garden. All of this…to the background music of our resident robins and under the watchful eyes of the FOTA rooks.

Here is a selection of images from the day.
